Classroom Managment

Classroom Management I believe each student is different and will respond differently to various behavior supports. Early positive behavior support is key in preventing negative behavior in the classroom and enforcing effective classroom management. I believe in prevention not punishment. Stopping a problem behavior before it escalates is my goal in classroom management. I will target minor issues and try to solve them before they become larger issues. If a student is acting out, I will address the students needs prior to the student acting out further and causing greater disturbance in the class. I would create a strategy such as a cool off period or time out with a peer mentor for reflection. I will change the strategy as neccasary but my main focus is prevention not punishment.

Classroom Rules: Classroom rules would be divided into two groups. The rules that govern the entire school which would be written in clear letters in a visible location as well as sent home with parents and the second set is the rules that pertain to our classroom alone. Our classroom rules are simple and easy to remember because too many rules can be overwhelming.

1. Respect yourself, respect others, and respect property.

2. Listen and follow directions

3. Come to class prepared and ready to learn

I picked these three rules because they are easy to follow and remember and I think they cover a myriad of behavioral issues. These rules would be in the center of the classroom above the chalkboard other highly visible place. They would also get sent home in the weekly newsletters to parents. I would also place these in the weekly assignment on the back page for reiteration.

Classroom Procedures: The lesson begins first by the students having an understanding that first procedure to beginning our lesson is for them to arrive in a timely manner. I will then lay out the plan of the day to the students so they are comfortable and have an understanding of what is to be taught and learned today. After that I will go over the prerequisites or prior knowledge that is needed to be revisited in order to continue with the day’s current lesson. Lesson will be logically structured in a clear and organized manner. The use of UDL can minimize classroom distractions and disruptions because students will have multiple means of representation and engagement therefore everyone will have an opportunity to have their differing styles of learning catered to and therefore less likely to feel left out or marginalized which causes less disruptions.

Preventative and supportive strategies

  • I will use high interest materials

  • I will use environmental modifications

  • I will have built in breaks in the daily routine

  • I will involve my students as much as possible I will show interest in student work

  • I will restructure difficult work as needed

  • I will acknowledge good behavior at appropriate times I will remove distractions
